PHOTO PAINTINGS

Through gestures, strokes and mark-making, line conveys movement, composition, definition of space, boldness, sensitivity, weight and gravity, etc. These photographs (and scores more) of seaweed and other found objects on sand, taken in 2015 and 2016, have the appearance of abstract paintings of line on textured ground that could easily have been rendered by a Miro, a Kandinsky or a Japanese calligrapher. As such, they are appropriate examples of art mimicking nature mimicking art.
